TutorChum is Leyecodes' in-house answer to a very Nigerian problem: students who need help finding tutors they can trust, and capable tutors with no clean way to find students. The platform matches on actual needs — subject, level, budget, schedule — rather than a directory scroll, and handles the whole engagement from first contact to paid session.
Payments run through an in-platform wallet backed by BudPay, so tutors get paid reliably and students aren't sending transfers to strangers. Profiles, vetting, scheduling, and ratings keep quality visible on both sides of the marketplace.
The stack is Next.js on the front with a Node.js API, MongoDB for the core data model, and Redis for sessions and matching-hot paths. It's also where we run production AI: a WhatsApp support bot powered by Claude with tool use, deployed on our own VPS, answering booking and matching queries inside the channel Nigerian students already live in.
